These customers had lived in their house in Ongar for donkey’s years, and their family had grown up, moved out and now had their own families. Like lots of people, they had reached a stage where they wanted to inject a new sense of energy into their lives and their old home. So they called in local home extension specialists Create Room to give them some ideas, and they came up with a plan to completely modernise the exterior, extend upwards into the loft to create home office space and extra bedrooms for the grandchildren to come and stay, and also to extend out across the back of the house to give them space for their dream kitchen.

Having worked together before, Create Room called Mark in to work alongside them to design the perfect kitchen. After the very first meeting Mark recognised that the most important part of the kitchen was to be an informal seating area designed into the centre island. Mark created a multi-level 60mm thick snack top supported by a see-through toughened glass panel, which created a sense of openness to the seating area. The colour of the snack top was the same as the doors and drawer-fronts on the centre island, creating a seamless but see-through appearance. The grandchildren loved it – and so did the grandparents!
